    (Reshaping of the Ears)

There is wide variation in the shape and size of the ears from person to person. Ears that stick out make children unfortunate targets for teasing and ridicule. Otoplasty is the name given to the surgical procedure carried out to reshape or alter the size of the ears. It may be carried out as early as three to five years of age or at any time in adulthood.

In general, a small hidden incision is made behind each ear, providing access to the ear's cartilage. The cartilage is then reshaped to create improved curvature and ear position. With the ears set back, a bandage is secured and generally remains in place for one week. After this, your return to school or work is rapid. The reshaping of the outer ears is a good example of the psychological benefits that may accompany plastic surgery.
