Jaw discrepancies with malocclusion are generally developmental in origin, but may be the result of congenital abnormalities, trauma, tumors, or other disorders. (Fig. 20, 21, 22) While minor jaw discrepancies and malocclusion can be managed by orthodontics alone, more complex jaw deformities affect both function and facial appearance and require a combined surgical and orthodontic approach.
